Functional, operational and support systems

The format finds it convenient to subdivide the functional system into the operational system which is directly responsible for providing the services, and the support systems that keep the operational system running. Examples of support systems are those associated with data preparation and equipment maintenance. This distinction is made because the assurance required from the Safety Case Report regarding support systems is often less than that for the operational system.
